1 Year of Shaved Head – Hair Growth

Before I shaved my head, I agonized over the decision. I knew it was something I had always wanted to do, but I wanted to be sure, ya know? So I scoured the internet looking for other females who had shaved their head and grew their hair back out. I wanted to know what it would look like. But of course there was no way for me know what I would look like as my own unique self, until I actually did it.

So I did. But not all right away. I started off with half a shaved head.

Oh and by the way (because I Googled this too, my hair texture is somewhere between 2b & 2c waves, and sometimes 3a curls).

Pre-head shave for reference.
Month -3. Started with a half shave. Felt bad-a$$, and the compliments started pouring in. Rocked this for about 2 months, shaving the side every week or 2 for upkeep.
Month -2. Shaved the other side, so kind of like a mohawk, but never styled it completely up because apparently you have to practically glue your hair for that. Thanks to the 80’s babes for teaching me how even though I never styled it up.
An up-do? I wasn’t a huge fan of the double shaved sides (for me), which gave me more motivation to just shave the whole thing.
Month 0! I did the thing. Well, my partner did the thing. In a field. And it was liberating. And weird to see myself. And very self-accepting.
Month 0.5. Bzz bzz
Month ~1. Out dancing with friends! They still liked me!
Month 1.5. Lil sprouts.
Month 2. Started styling it to the side.
Month 3. Lil tousled lewk.
Month 3 again, but with my grandma because I love her.
Month 4. If I could go back, I’d probably go back to this length. Looked sharp, easy maintenance, waves starting to poke through.
Month 5. You can see more length because I combed it upwards!
Month 6.
Month 7. I wore a lot more hats during my short hair period not to hide my head, but because I found it to be a fun way to experiment with other styles.
Month 8.
Month 9. What I looked like a lot of the time because I spent most time in the house as a family caregiver, & didn’t feel like styling.
Month 10. First baby ponytail!
Month 11. Curls definitely showing up!
Month 12! Photo from a dance performance. Kinda looks mullet-y because I had the sides pinned back.
One year! I really enjoyed this phase as well. In this photo I have a lil ponytail.

And that concludes 1 year of growing out my shaved head.

If you are reading this, and contemplating taking the plunge, go shave your head. You will never know what you will look like, more importantly what you will feel like, or who you will feel like, until you do it.

You just might learn more about who you really are, underneath the hair. The journey awaits ~
