Founder, Scott Putman, practicing the Spinal Awakening Series as part of the EBAS First Sitting.
The Elemental Body Alignment System is a structural re-education system designed for the recalibration of physical integrity and supported range of motion for movement efficiency. Founder Scott Putman developed EBAS while recovering from a series of injuries. He now spreads it internationally to people across various movement disciplines to deepen the understanding of where movement comes from, how to align the body and to build a physical consciousness of open pathways of energy for movement. Pulling from esoteric philosophies of eastern healing modalities, massage therapy, & martial arts, the system helps the learner to override the central nervous system, creating new neuromuscular firings to support a greater understanding of sensorial technique.
After studying modern and ballet under Putman at VCU, I further went on to earn my EBAS Level 1 Teacher Certification. My goal as a practitioner is to leave each individual with at least a few tokens of wisdom about their own body, as well as to encourage alternative ways of processing information presented to them.
There are 3 main ways I incorporate the Elemental Body Alignment System into my work:
- flow class – leading the sequence from start to finish
- workshop style class – diving deep into certain postures, usually with students in partnerships
- sprinkling concepts into my everyday teaching (most common incorporation!)
